We were thrilled to have a lively group of 11-14 year-old students join us for a week of road biking, mountain biking, and mechanical skill-building!
Students began the week by learning the basics of bike mechanics. Taking advantage of Waterside’s workshop space, they practiced using tools and work stands to make repairs and adjustments on our collection of refurbished bikes.
Under the guidance of four experienced Waterside cyclists, the group departed to a different destination each day, including the Martin Luther King Jr. Regional Shoreline in Oakland, the McLaughlin Eastshore Shoreline in Berkeley, and the Iron Horse trail in Danville.
Students returned from each trip tired but in good spirits! They became more experienced riders over the course of the week, learning important cycling skills, like how to ride in traffic and on gravel trails. Every day, the students demonstrated greater physical resilience and knowledge of bike safety.
