A safe place to build,
thrive, and take the lead.

Waterside Workshops engages Bay Area youth with
hands-on vocational training in bicycle mechanics, wooden
boatbuilding, and outdoor education.

Our 2025 Impact

Each year, over 300 youth ages 8-24 participate in Waterside’s internships, classes, and outdoor adventures. Waterside is a safe place for youth to feel heard, gain confidence, develop work skills, and access the tools and resources needed to lead healthy, sustainable lives.

In 2025 alone, hundreds of young people gained skills and paid work experience, and thousands of community members repaired bikes through our Open Shop — keeping materials out of landfills and building confidence, independence, and connection.

Programs

Located at the Berkeley Aquatic Park, Waterside Workshops offers internships and jobs for youth in our two social enterprises: a community bike shop and a wooden boat shop and boat rental facility. Our interns also have opportunities to explore the natural surroundings of the Bay Area through our Adventures program.
